If you are in the novelty of your NP education and your curriculum requires the Dunphy Primary Care textbook, you COULD utilize this book to review for your chapter tests/quizzes while you are in your NP program, otherwise....DO NOT purchase this book as a review for your actual NP program!
I just completed my AANP certification test yesterday! I am an outgoing nurse and I learn best by using all venues (hearing, reading and writing) so after spending a week with Brown/Dunphy and becoming disappointed and frustrated with my progress, I put it away and changed my plan. I had a forty-five day plan and I mapped out every single day by dividing each system into a day of introduction, review and mini-system tests. Some systems I spent four days on (weaker areas) and other tests I spent two days. If you are an outgoing person who enjoys humor while learning start with:
1-APEA--Amelie Hollier's NP review series (You can go to her review or watch the review on line or purchase the review) Now Hollier started each venue by shared the 5-6 most common disease processes you would see on the exam (and you will) and then she went into further detail by sharing funny stories. Her review made learning serious yet fun! Some say they have trouble getting acquainted to her dialect but as a country girl myself, I appreciated the cultural aspect of others seeing that although we have this dialect, we have a powerful brain too--BE SURE to purchase her review book for a system overview of mini-tests and the final 3 long tests! As you can see...SHE WAS MY FAVORITE!!! Yes there were minor typos but get over it and move on!
2-NP review by Maria Leik--This book is a great read. It feels as if the author is sitting right next to you. She also has 500 general entry- to-practice questions in her book too.
